Framing FAQ
Got a question about getting something framed? Below are answers to the questions customers ask us most — pricing, quotes, how long it takes, and collecting your order.
Quotes and pricing
How much does framing cost?
Framing starts from around £45 for a standard print. The final price depends on the size of your artwork, the frame profile, the type of glass, and whether you add a mount.
Business and bulk orders (for example, 30+ pictures in matching frames) are quoted individually.
How do I get a framing quote?
- Instant online quote — use our quote tool. Enter your artwork size and framing choices and an itemised estimate is emailed to you in under 60 seconds. No sign-up, no obligation.
- Visit us — bring your piece to 29 Dockhead, London SE1 2BS and we'll quote on the spot.
- Email us — send the size and a photo to info@bermondseygallery.co.uk and we'll send a personalised estimate with a reference number (e.g. #REF7037).
Very large or unusually shaped pieces (e.g. A0, 841 × 1189 mm) need a bespoke quote rather than the online tool.
The quote is over my budget. What can I do?
Just reply to your estimate email. We can often adjust the spec — a different moulding, standard glass instead of museum glass, or no mount — to bring the price down.
When do I pay?
Your price is confirmed when you drop off your piece, before anything is ordered. We accept all major cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Maestro), PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay and Klarna.
Consultations and dropping off
Do I need an appointment?
No — you can walk in. If you'd like dedicated time with our framing team, book a free 30-minute consultation. Bring your artwork, photo or object and we'll help you choose the right frame.
Where are you?
29 Dockhead, London SE1 2BS — about 2 minutes from Bermondsey station. Phone: 020 7231 3141.
What can you frame?
Prints, posters, canvases, original artwork, photographs, certificates, memorabilia, sports shirts, textiles, mirrors, and large or unusual objects. We can also cut glass and backboard only, if you already have a frame.
What should I bring?
- The artwork itself (so we can check size, condition and colours)
- Your quote reference number, if you have one
- Any ideas or photos of frames you like
Please note: we'll point out any existing marks, glue or damage when you drop off. Marks on the edges can usually be trimmed away; marks in the body of the image can't be removed.
Turnaround, order status and collection
How long does framing take?
Standard turnaround is 2–3 weeks. Complex pieces or special-order mouldings can take longer. You'll get an estimated completion date when you drop off.
Is my frame ready yet?
We'll contact you when your frame is ready. To check sooner, email info@bermondseygallery.co.uk or call 020 7231 3141 with:
- Your reference number (e.g. #REF7037, in the subject line of your estimate email), or
- Your full name and a short description of the piece (e.g. "steel-effect frame, A3 print") if you can't find the reference
How do I collect my frame?
Finished frames are collected from the studio at 29 Dockhead. Call or email us to arrange a collection time so someone is ready for you. We don't currently offer delivery.
What if I'm not happy with it?
Tell us when you collect, or get in touch soon after. We stand behind every frame we make.
Glass, mounts and materials
Which glass should I choose?
| Glass | Best for |
|---|---|
| Standard clear glass | Everyday prints and posters in rooms without strong sunlight |
| Conservation glass | Original art, photographs and watercolours you want to protect from fading |
| Anti-reflective museum glass | Valuable pieces, or anywhere glare is a problem |
What is a mount, and do I need one?
A mount is the card border between the artwork and the frame. It adds breathing space and keeps the glass off the surface. Ours are acid-free conservation and museum mountboard, cut to size.
What is dry mounting?
We bond the print flat onto a rigid board (usually Foamex) and fit hanging fixings, so it's ready to hang without a frame. It suits large posters and photographs.
Can you make a frame in a particular style or a very large size?
Yes — we offer wood, metal, handmade and bespoke mouldings, including large formats. Send us the size and a reference photo of the style you want for a bespoke quote.
